Something has to give at Heath Road
12:54pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in Sport
IT really is a ‘winner takes all’ game on Saturday, when the only two remaining unbeaten sides in North One West - Widnes and Wirral - meet head-to-head at Heath Road.
It should be real humdinger of a game, particularly as there is normally little or nothing to choose between the two.
Wirral are currently in a rich vein of form, scoring plenty of points, and just a fortnight ago recorded their first ever win over Liverpool St Helens scoring over 50 points in the process. Prior to that, they had put 70 plus points past Kendal on the opening day of the season.
Widnes, though, have nothing to fear.
They already have wins against two of the sides who finished second and third in the table last season, and they have also dug in deep to record wins against Broughton Park, Wilmslow and a much improved Wigton.
In the corresponding fixture last term, Widnes came out on top with a Jonny Lowe inspired 25 – 21 victory, but they had to withstand a late Wirral fight back which almost got the visitors over the finishing line.
A big crowd is expected for the game which kicks off at 3pm.
