9:32am Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Sport
In very wet and windy conditions Widnes were made to work hard for the victory.
The Wids lost Josh Kenyon with a broken collar bone in the opening minutes, they also lost front row man Simon Bisset and influential stand off Tom Beech who was able to return in the second half to marshall Widnes to victory.
Widnes took the lead after 20 minutes stand off Alex Cooke dummied and sliced his way through the home defence to touch down under the posts, Luke McMahon added the simple conversion.
Josh Steadman then broke through from inside his own half handing on to the supporting Mike Jones who was tackled 5 yards short of the try line.
Sean McMuldroch shortly after also went close. On the stroke of half time poor defence from the Widnes forwards allowed Glossop to level the scores. The second half saw Widnes take control of the game, Geoff Cooke, Craig Farmer, Chas Lang, Joe Galloway and Bradley Davies all prominent in the Widnes pack.
Jack McAdam who had a fine game in attack and defence put Widnes back into the lead scoring wide out, Tom Beech added the difficult conversion closely followed by a penalty goal.
Deep into injury time Beech's superb kick from his own 22 landed in Glossop's 22 put the home side into difficulty resulting in Glossop losing possession allowing Widnes to move the ball for Alex Cooke to go over for his second try to wrap the game up.
Alex Cooke was awarded the man of the match closely followed by his older brother Geoff. Widnes welcome Macclesfield to Heath Road on Sunday 2.00pm kick off.
