Runcorn Linnets 2-1 Glossop North End.
RUNCORN progressed to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with a second 2-1 home success over Glossop North End in just over a month.
Linnets enjoyed an early chance, Adam Wade's long-range effort well saved by the 'keeper. Nathan Neequaye was put free for the visitors at the other end before the linesman's flag stopped him in his tracks.
It was Glossop who broke the deadlock after Kelvin Lugsden was fouled in the area and Dave Young tucked away the penalty kick.
Runcorn were to be frustrated with missed chances as the half wore on, the visitors taking their lead into the interval.
Lee Thompson was introduced into the fray for the start of the second half by Linnets manager Joey Dunn in what proved an inspired substitution. Within a minute he had an impact in the hosts' equaliser. Receiving Matt Cross' pass, Thompson provided the assist for Mark Houghton to finish.
Two minutes later Thompson forced a rebound from Glossop 'keeper Ben Proctor, Matty Atherton heading Runcorn ahead.
Thompson's influence continued, Houghton just putting the ball wide from his cross, as Linnets rallied, going close to a third several times.
However, cause for caution arrived when Runcorn 'keeper Andy Robertson did well to keep out a deflection headed for the hosts' net.
Glossop pushed desperately in the tense final stages. Michael Duffy cleared from the line and Robertson tipped the ball over the bar under pressure for the final act of the pulsating cup tie.
