Widnes Vikings beat Hull KR 36-22
5:18pm Sunday 1st September 2013 in Sport
WIDNES Vikings have scored an impressive 36-22 win over Hull KR.
They were looking pretty comfortable at half time with tries from Kevin Brown, Adam Lawton, Joe Mellor and Rhys Hanbury making it 24-0 at the break.
Vikings were pretty dominant early on - with the pack coming out well on top against the Rovers six and Joe Mellor and Kevin Brown were head and shoulders above Travis Burns and Michael Dobson at that stage.
But Hull KR rallied midway through the second half, with two from David Hodgson and one from namesake Josh making it game on again.
But Patraick Ah Van hit back again for Widnes, cancelled out by another one from David Hodgson, to keep the excitement bubbling.
Big Frank Winterstein made sure three minutes from time when he showed good pace to power home from close range.
The game was entertaining and not short of incident, with big Australian Ben Cross making his first appearance since April.
Alas, the big prop had to limp off to a standing ovation from the crowd in what is likely to be his last game of rugby league.
