A WIDNES schoolgirl will be showcasing her skills for Liverpool Ladies this season after signing for the Premier League club’s centre of excellence development squad.
Moorefield Primary pupil Codi-Lea Salmon was one of a handful of girls to be offered an automatic spot in the squad after impressing for the Merseyside club last campaign.
The seven-year-old was invited to Anfield to sign a 12-month contract alongside Liverpool Ladies and England striker Natasha Dowie, Liverpool Ladies manager Matt Beard, academy graduate Sam Chapel and head of the centre of excellence Kevin Quigley.
Codi has teamed up with the under 9s squad, training once a week and playing in tournaments.
“Codi enjoyed going to Anfield to sign terms,” said dad Brian Salmon.
“It was very professional – the club laid out what they expect from each player and she was told the rules and regulations of playing for a club like Liverpool.”
Codi’s club career started 18 months ago in Warrington with Crosfields JFC, although her interest in football started a lot earlier.
“She was kicking a ball around as soon as she could walk,” added Brian.
