Derek Roylance Cup final takes place tomorrow
1:37pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in Sport
HALEBANK face Moorfield in Saturday’s Derek Roylance Widnes Challenge Cup final at the Select Security Stadium, 3pm.
Entry to the final is £2 for adults, accompanied children go free, and programmes are available for a donation to the Chesnut Lodge School, Widnes Football Development Forum’s chosen charity.
Halebank endured extra time to see off semi-final opponents Avon Athletic while Moorfield, champions in three of the previous four competitions, booked their final spot with victory over Pex Hill on Saturday.
Connor Speed struck a post for Halebank but Avon opened the scoring before the break when Sam Gleave converted Jack Fenlon’s cross.
Skipper Nick Ellis levelled from the spot and Halebank took the lead through Dale Osborne, before Avon’s Steve O’Grady sent the game into extra time.
Speed fired home from close range to give Halebank the lead and Matt Perry collected an extra time double to seal their route to the final.
Moorfield guaranteed their final place earlier in the day after a stunning free kick from man-of-the-match Paul Giles curled past Pex Hill goalkeeper Matthew Keeble.
