Marple Colts - 17 Widnes Colts - 21

WIDNES Colts were pushed all the way in a very entertaining game by an excellent Marple outfit who were willing to run the ball at every opportunity making Widnes work extremely hard in defence.

After a number of opportunities to score Marple eventually took the lead after 25 minutes.

Widnes responded 5 minutes later Josh Kenyon sending Craig Farmer through a gap to touchdown from 25 yards.

The second half saw both sides up the tempo of the game Tom Beech kicked a close range penalty goal after Mike Jones, Patrick Tyrrell and Geoff Cooke had made in roads into the Marple 22.

Aaron Duggan powered over extending the Wids lead after inter neat passing between Adam Watson and Joe Galloway.

Marple responded scoring a well worked try, Beech then kicked a 45 yard penalty goal for an 18-10 lead but back came Marple once again scoring an excellent try from a scrum deep in the Widnes half to leave the game on a knife edge with only 1 point separating the sides.

With only 2 minutes remaining Beech kicked his third penalty of the day Marple straying off side after Widnes had recycled the ball a number of times in the Marple 22 to clinch a hard fought victory.

Mike Jones who had an excellent game in the back row was awarded the Widnes man of the match sponsored by the Leecliffe Hotel (Blackpool).
