Tight game anticipated at Wirral
8:00am Wednesday 20th February 2013 in Sport
Things could not be any tighter on Saturday, when Wirral play host to Widnes in this re-arranged North One West fixture.
Both sides are locked together in fifth and sixth in the table, and a win for either side will really begin to tighten things up as the final lap in the promotion race begins to unfold.
Wirral, do, however, have a game in hand, which could be vital in the final analysis. Wirral have been something of a revelation since the turn of the year – unbeaten in 2013 – and currently have an impressive list of victories against promotion hopefuls Sale, Vale of Lune and Carlisle.
Widnes, on the other hand, have gone quietly about their business, picking up wins, and anxious to maintain the gap in the table between themselves and their arch rivals. They will also be keen to register the double after winning the first game 25 - 21 at Heath Road at the end of September.
Widnes should have prop forward Simon Alderson back in contention after missing the last two games. However, his front row partner Paul Borg is out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious shoulder injury at Carlisle.
The game kicks off at 2.15pm.
