Wids have opportunity to build on Sale victory

Buoyed by their superb victory over Sale last weekend, Widnes have an opportunity to build on their great start in 2013, when they take on struggling Anselmians at Heath Road.

The win moved them up to fifth in the table with a game in hand and within touching distance of the leading group.

Like the Sale game, Lee McDermott’s men have had this one circled in the diary for some time as they look to put the record straight after being well beaten at Malone Field back in September.

That day, it was Simon Mason who inspired his team as they ‘did a job’ on Widnes to record their first win of the season.

Since then though, their form can only be described as ‘patchy’ and successive hammerings at the hands of Vale of Lune and Sale, as well as a defeat against bottom club Manchester, has left the Wirral based side in danger of being dragged into a relegation dog fight if they don’t have a change of fortunes soon.

Widnes, on the other hand are on a decent run of form, moving up to fifth spot after three successive wins and a draw in their last four outings, and they will be in mood to let this one slip. The game kicks off at 2.15pm.
