Birkenhead made the Wids work extra hard using their big set of forwards to pin them in their own half for long periods of time throughout the game.

Widnes took an early lead Tom Beech threw a long pass out to Shaun McMuldroch who out-paced the home defence to score in the corner.

Park levelled the score mid way through the half but on the stroke of half time Beech put Widnes back into the lead kicking his first penalty. The second half saw Widnes go close on a number of occasions but were denied by fine defence.

They were rewarded with three more penalty goals from Tom Beech to leave the Wids 17-5 up. Olly Glover wrapped up the game scoring under the posts after an excellent out the tackle pass from Joe Galloway, Beech added the simple conversion.

The coaches were pleased with the performance and exceptional defence work from man of the match Joe Galloway, Alex Clare, Craig Farmer and Mike Jones along with the attacking play from Beech, McMuldroch and Glover.

Widnes welcome Aldwinians to Heath Road on Sunday 2pm.
