Wids will travel up the M6 in a confident mood

WIDNES Rugby Union Club’s first XV face the toughest of challenges when they travel to take on second-placed Vale of Lune in North One West at Powder House Lane on Saturday.

Vale have started the season in fine style with a series of big victories, although they slipped up surprisingly at Leigh and were beaten narrowly at Sale last weekend.

However, both sides like to throw the ball around and if the contest is anything like the two games last season then the supporters should be in for a feast of rugby.

Widnes will have nothing to fear though because their performances in the last two games in particular will see them travel up the M6 in confident mood.

Widnes...34 Wilmslow...0.

WIDNES maintained their excellent run of form with another outstanding victory over Wilmslow, whom they now overtake in the league table.

Wids were irresistible in the first half and scored three tries from man-of-the-match Jonny Lowe, two, and Gareth Riley to lead 15-0.

The game was effectively wrapped up as a contest inside the first 10 minutes of the second half when both Paul O’Connor and Steve Reynolds crossed for tries before Arnie Haydock crashed over with just four minutes left.
