Hard work paying off for swimmers
1:28pm Tuesday 23rd October 2012 in Sport
RUNCORN Reps enjoyed a strong start to their season with victory in the first Merseyside and District Junior Swimming League Gala of 2012/13.
The Reps claimed 23 first and 15 second places from the day’s 50 races, beating off competition from teams representing Wallasey, Connah’s Quay and Bridgefield.
The best was saved until last with victory in both the girls’ and boys’ eight swimmer cannons, the boys’ cannon winning their race by more than a length.
Runcorn ended the day top of the table with 174 points, well clear of nearest rivals Connah’s Quay on 129.
“The swimmers have been working very hard to improve their personal bests and their hard work is starting to pay off,” said head coach Liz Bibby.
“This is the best they have ever swam and hopefully it will continue and we will have a chance at moving up to a higher division next year.”
Runcorn Reps are based at Brookvale Recreation Centre and Runcorn Swimming Pool.
