The RSPCA is appealing for anyone who has seen the infamous blue fox to get in touch as it could be toxic.

Ever since the News Shopper broke the story of a blue fox visiting the Woolwich Travelodge, concerned animal lovers have expressed concern over the safety of the critter.

The fox was led away from the hotel by a member of the public with crisps before the RSPCA arrived, and staff are now worried that the fox's health could be at risk.

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "We have not received any calls about this very unusual case of a blue fox at our 24 hour helpline, but would ask anyone who sees him to call us on 0300 1234 999.

"It looks from the photos that he may have fallen/slept/rolled or lain down on something blue and it is difficult to say for sure whether this is a welfare issue but there is a definite risk that whatever has done this might be toxic."

A spokeswoman for Travelodge UK said: "We can confirm that a fox entered our Woolwich hotel.

"The hotel staff followed procedure and immediately contacted the RSPCA."
