NEW Age kurling is proving a big hit with Halton pensioners.
A pioneering weekly exercise class for the over- 50s is to become a permanent fixture after encouraging many retired people to take exercise for the first time.
Paula Parle, Halton's health and physical activity development officer, said: "People with disabilities can play on an equal level to able-bodied people as the sports can be played chair-based or standing."

Taster sessions at Kingsway Leisure Centre were so popular in January, Halton Council had decided to extend them.
New Age kurling is a form of the game curling on ice but played on a smooth floor, where kurling stones are rolled towards a target.
People can also try Boccia, pronounced Botcha', an indoor bowling game.
The sports hall is split into three sections for sessions every Monday, from 11am to noon.
One is set aside for kurling, one for Boccia and a third section is set up for table tennis.
The cost of the sessionis is £1.60 or 80 pence with a Halton leisure card for adults aged 50 plus.
