FASCINATING secrets behind stars and planets will be revealed when a top astronomer comes to Halton.

Dr Tim O’Brien, who presents BBC’s Stargazing with Professor Brian Cox, is giving a free talk at Runcorn’s Halton Lea Library at 6.30pm, on Thursday, February 9.

He is an astrophysicist at the University of Manchester and associate director at Jodrell Bank Observatory.

He teamed up with 17 scientists to compile ‘Litmus’, a collection of short stories inspired by modern science.

Their stories capture what happened during ‘eureka’ moments that changed the way we live forever.

The popular TV show has attracted a new generation to astronomy.

Some of the scenes were shot at the Pex Hill observatory in Widnes.

Dr O’Brien’s research concentrates on the study of exploding stars using telescopes around the world and in space.

He teaches science students and works with children.
