Halton pupils win royal apporoval

The Duchess of Gloucester presents the jubilee award to Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy pupils
ENTERPRISING children were encouraged to ‘keep up the good work’ by the Duchess of Gloucester.
She praised Halton pupils for their inspirational community projects as guest of honour at the 02 Young People Awards, held at the 02 call centre on Tuesday.
Her royal highness said she was delighted to meet the teenagers and hear about their endeavours, as part of 02’s Think Big Project, an initiative that encourages young people to make a difference to their communities.
The Duchess presented a special Jubilee award to students from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy in Runcorn to mark the Queen’s Jubilee.
The trophy will become an annual award given to an individual or organsation that promotes positive community action.
Stacey Snagg, a teacher at Ormiston Bolinbroke Academy, said: “It’s fantastic to see the children being recognnised in this way.
“Their confidence has grown tremendously as they have embraced the projects.”
Bankfield’s eco reporters, a group who investigated how energy was produced and its impact on the environment, won the 02 knowledge award.
Wade Deacon students received the 02 inspirational young people award for raising funds for orphans in the Gambia, following a fact finding trip to the country.
