A CELEBRITY chef showed shoppers how to prepare a tasty, economical dish in less than 30 minutes.

Mike Harrison demonstrated his skills at Widnes Market with food bought from various food stalls.

More than 11,000 shoppers passed through the market that day.

Mike prepared a tuna steak and served it with salad, made cauliflower soup, oven cooked a gammon steak, with a sweet banofee pudding, for dessert.

The live show, part of Halton Council’s My Foody Fortnight, attracted a constant stream of spectators in the outdoor market.

Halton Mayor, Clr Tom McInerney said: “"I really enjoyed it. We cooked chargrilled tuna steak and helped make a cauliflower cheese soup to go with some seared gammon.

“I picked up some tips. I may be getting into the kitchen more myself now.”

Peter Kelly from Granby’s Butchers stall demonstrated his knife skills. He showed the audience how to prepare joints for the oven, prepare and make kebabs and burgers and how to bone a chicken.

Various events were held across the borough to celebrate food.

Visitors to Norton Priory’s Walled Garden were able to taste beer and priory ale cake, as well as watch ice cream being made. Fresh fruit was provided as healthy walks were organised in local parks.
