A DREAM to open a youth club in memory of a gifted young musician is taking shape.

The parents of 14-year-old Lewis Edge, who died after falling off the Silver Jubilee Bridge in July, hope to create a safe place where children can relax and learn to play instruments.

They have already raised £4,000 towards a charitable foundation called Lewis Edge, The Brightest Star.

Lewis’s mum, Lisa Millward, aged 32, of West Bank, said: “We have been overwhelmed with support. Everyone has been absolutely brilliant. People have offered to help whenever we need them.”

The money was raised from a giant fun day and selling Lewis wrist bands.

A race night and auction is being held on Friday, October 12, at 7.30pm at The Village club. Rachael Cross from Upton will be singing. A TV will be raffled. Tickets priced £3 will be available on the door.

West Bank dad George Gaskell is running the Liverpool Marathon on Sunday for the charity.

Young musicians, including Lewis’ school band, will be performing at The Studio, Lacey Street, on November 17.

Lisa said: “We want to keep Lewis’ memory alive. He was very musical. He loved playing his guitar.”

She said his sister, Alex, aged 11, and brother, Josh, who is 10 on Thursday, are receiving counselling.

Lewis would have been 15 on October 21.

Lisa lost her mum, Carol Millward, aged 54, from Weates Close, two years ago.

Lisa added: “Lewis is now with his nan. We are getting through it. We’ve got fantastic suport from family and friends.

“I’m back in work now and the charity is keeping me busy.

“My partner, Graeme has been fantastic.

“We want to create a place in West Bank where chilidren can learn to play the guitar and drums.

“Music was what Lewis loved most.”

Tickets for the race night are available from Lisa on 07597 363195.
