A WIDNES man who repeatedly lit fires in his garden has been prosecuted for causing environmental pollution.
David Bibby, aged 65,, of Marsh Hall Pad, Farnworth, was convicted of three charges brought under the Enviromental Protection Act and three under the Clean Air Act.
Runcorn Magistrates Court heard that between March and May, 2012, an environmental health officer visited his home on numerous occasions with police officers.
It followed reports that Bibby was lighting fires in his garden and causing a nuisance.
Bibby was verbally abusive towards the officer and repeatedly refused to put out the fires stating that it was his land.
The officer saw Bibby burning cable to recover the metal as well as accumulations of household waste.
Bibby was convicted on all six charges and fined £1215, including council costs and a fine for breaching a conditional discharge for a previous offence.
