YOUNG Runcorn musicians will rock the House of Commons when they perform for Speaker John Bercow in November.

The band, Stoneway, won the opportunity in a national competition that raised the importance of intellectual property rights and live music.

They received Yamaha equipment and will fly trip to Singapore in February to perform their original alternative rock track about broken promises in the music industry.

Bass player, Merryn Dowson, aged 17, of Sunniside Lane, Sandymoor, said: “We were absolutely ecstatic when we found out we had won because so many other tracks had been sent in.”

The band, all students at Priestly College, Warrington, sent their track to Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans, who chose them to represent his constituency.

Mr Evans said: “I’m absolutely thrilled for Stoneway, who as well as being excellent young musicians have been wonderful ambassadors for their college and for the local community in Runcorn.”

Band members are all aged 17, and include Ste Fisher, of Northwich Road, Alex Roberts, of Copperwood, and, Danny Smith, of Bridgeway West, Windmill Hill.
