A PILOT scheme to ensure that vulnerable people feel safe when out and about is being launched by Halton Council.

Safe in Town is for adults and young people aged 14 and over who have a learning or physical disability, and anyone over 60, to help them feel safe in the community.

Shops and many other places will display the Safe in Town logo on their windows.

If people don’t feel safe when they are out and about, they can seek sanctuary in these places where staff will get them help.

The six-month pilot will run in Widnes town centre and Halton Lea shopping centre in Runcorn.

People can sign up for the scheme on Monday, September 17, and Tuesday, September 18, from 10am to 12 noon at Halton Speak Out, The Old Police Station, Mersey Road, Runcorn; Monday, September 24, from 10am to 12 noon at The Mobility Shop, Halton Lea; Thursday, September 27, from 10am to 12 noon, at The Mobility Shop, Widnes Market.

Halton Council has teamed up with Cheshire Police and local charity, Halton Speak Out to set it up.

If successful, it will be extended to include community centres, leisure centres and libraries.
