WHISTON and St Helens hospitals have been named in the top 10 of more than 160 trusts in the country for providing the best care and support for cancer patients.

Patients gave their feedback in a survey carried out by Macmillan Cancer Support.

They awarded the highest scores in two areas, staff explaining completely what would be done during tests, and patients feeling that hospiotal staff did not misinform them.

Ann Marr, chief executive of St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust, said: “We are delighted with the feedback from patients about the care they have received at Whiston and St Helens hospitals.

“It is extremely important that we provide the right care and support. The trust is committed to providing the highest standards to meet all patients’ needs.”

Other areas in which the trust excelled included patients feeling involved in decisions about their care, patients having confidence and trust in all doctors treating them, and patients feeling there were enough nurses on duty during their hospital stay.
