Police are appealing for help in tracing a 33-year-old Widnes woman, who has learning difficulties.

Joanne Turner, of Deepdale in Widnes, was reported missing yesterday (Friday) after failing to turn up for work.

Although Joanne has learning difficulties she leads a fully independent life and takes her responsibility for looking after her young son very seriously which is why police are concerned for Joanne, as her disappearance is out of character.

Joanne is described as white, 5'9", of a medium build, and has distinctive, dyed bright red hair which she was wearing up in a bun.

She also has tattoos on her arms.

Joanne was last seen dressed in a long grey silk top which reached her knees, jeans with rips to the knee, trainers and a long silver chain. She also may be wearing a pink cotton type jacket with pockets that is waist length with a belt.

Inspector Nadia Brew, who is co-coordinating the police search for Joanne said: "We understand from Joanne's family that her disappearance is out totally out of character. Joanne has been missing for over 24 hours and was last seen yesterday morning leaving her house in Deepdale at 8.30am, the time that she would normally leave for work and she has not been seen since.

Police are also appealing to Joanne herself to make contact. Inspector Brew added: "Joanne - you are not in any trouble but your parents are very worried about you. Please contact them or call the police to let us know you are safe and well."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.
