A SUSPECTED drugs den has been shut down in Hough Green.

Police successfully won a closure order, also known as a crackhouse closure, for the property on Eversley in the town.

They provided Halton Magistrates’ Court with evidence of a catalogue of complaints against the 32-year-old tenant including supply or use of class A drugs and causing disorder and nuisance in the area.

The property, an end terrace house, is owned by Halton Housing Trust.

The tenant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been forced to leave the home and can be arrested if he tries to return.

The property has been boarded up until at least November while details of the order have been posted outside.

PC Michelle Thompson, from Widnes Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "It is important to note that the action taken is not a knee-jerk reaction − it has been carefully considered following extensive consultation with partner agencies.

"Cheshire Police is committed to tackling drug related crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour and we will all continue to work together to tackle both the causes and effects of drugs misuse.

"We hope that the closure order will reinforce the message to residents that we are listening to what they are saying and will take positive action against anyone engaged in illegal activities. It should also serve as a warning that people who choose to behave in this way can lose their homes as a consequence of their actions.

"We would like to thank the local community for its continued support − and, in particular, to those people who gave the information, which led to this closure."
