OLYMPIC torchbearer Gavin Hanson spoke to older people about his once in a lifetime opportunity.
Runcorn firefighter Gavin shared his memories with residents from Millbrow Care Home in Widnes and children from Holy Family RC Primary School, Cronton.
Dad-of-three Gavin said: “Carrying the torch was the most amazing moment of my life. The fact that so many people turned out to see us run was just overwhelming.
“I’ve never seen such a public display of welcome in Runcorn. They really did us proud.”
Gavin carried the torch from Greenway Road to the bridge.
The talk was part of the London 2012 Olympic Legacy Challenge.
The ‘Go For Gold’ event at Kingsway Leisure Centre included senior games, dancing and ‘try-athlon’, where they tried at different events for the first time, such as new age bowls.
Children then performed a selection of songs.
Halton Council sports development officer, Paula Parle, said: “It was great to see young and old alike enjoying each other’s company and having a go at new sports.”
