A CANNABIS factory has been discovered in Widnes.

Around 100 plants were found in the cellar of a house in Mersey Road, West Bank, after police community support officers noticed a strange smell coming from the property.

Cannabis and equipment were seized at around 12.45pm yesterday.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Inspector Ian Whiley, of Widnes Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "We are committed to tackling the issue of illegal drugs in the local community.

“We will not tolerate any sort of behaviour that has a negative impact on the lives of others.

"Residents can rest assured that positive action will be taken against anyone found to be involved in drug use or supply.”
