THE atmosphere was electric as Widnes Vikings made their exciting Super League comeback on Friday.
Widnes born X Factor singer James Michael welcomed the 8,120 spectators with his own unique style.
With just a guitar and microphone, the 20-year-old entertained the crowd before the game and during half time.
James said: “Belting it out to thousands of people is what it’s all about. to me.
“Playing in front of the fans was my way of saying thank you to them for the support they’ve offered me.”
James made it to judge Gary Barlow’s final four in last year’s X Factor.
He hopes to record his first album later this month.
Mark Naughton, Widnes Vikings press officer, said: “The atmosphere was great.
“The boys were back in town.
“It was a chance for fans to see our 16 new players and they were all excited to meet their new heroes.
“Our mascot, Kemik has had a designer makeover. He has come back as a lean, mean fighting machine with a new hair cut and sun tan.
“It’s all change fore 2012.”
Pollyma, a new lady mascot, named after the club’s ICI shirt, was also unveiled.
