ENERGETIC children tackled the sport of new age kurling in a fun-filled contest.
Teams from 12 Halton primary schools enjoyed an Olympic and Paralympic themed competition in the run-up to the London 2012 games.
Karen Drake, Halton school games organiser, said:”This provided an opportunity for pupils who may not have represented their school before to take part in this fun but competitive event.”
Twenty year nine sports leaders helped to umpire the matches at SS Peter & Paul Catholic College in Widnes.
Each game comprises two ends. Four children in the team deliver a stone to one target end whilst their four opponents try to get their stone to the other target end.
The aim of kurling is to get the stone nearest to the centre of the target.
Woodside A team were the overall winners, beating Gorsewood 3-0 in the final.
All Saints Upton, Pewithall, St Michael’s, Hallwood Park, Our Lady Mother of the Saviour, St Bedes Junior, Westfield, Spinney Aveue, St Berteline’s and Palacefields Academy took part.
