Family fun at free Spudaganza in Walled Garden

BAKED, mashed, roast, chips or crisps, everyone loves potatoes.

A special celebration at Norton Priory’s Walled Garden will celebrate this great British vegetable.

Spudaganza from 12 noon to 4pm on Sunday, February 19 will give visitors the chance to buy plants, seeds and heritage varieties.

A new twist on games will challenge children in a potato and spoon race, potato bowling and a potato shy.

Creative activities will include potato printing and making a potao person.

Ranger Paul Quigley said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to kick start your gardening year with lots of fun for families and handy tips about your veg patch for gardening enthusiasts.”

Baked potatoes will be available in a newly-built cob oven, made from clay and straw.

Head gardener John Budworth will be offering tips on growing different varieties.

Tons of potatoes were grown at the Walled Garden for Dig for Victory during the Second World War.
