OVERNIGHT closures will stop all traffic crossing the Runcorn Widnes bridge for short periods of up to 30 minutes, from Saturday, March 26.
The closures will operate for up to 11 nights, from 10pm to 5.30am.
The bridge needs to be clear of traffic to allow scaffolding erected over the carriagemway to be removed.
A signed diversion will be provided, but as the alternative route is 16 miles, it may be quicker to wait for the bridge to reopen.
The current overnight and weekend lane closures will continue as maintenance work is still being carried out.
This involves the closure of two lanes on the bridge, with a single lane running in each direction, from 7pm to 5.30am, Monday to Friday, and all weekend.
Halton Council apologises for any inconvenience but says that this maintenance work is essential to ensure the integrity of bridge.
