HALTON Haven Hospice staff are hoping to encourage more people to support their weekly draw Lottery manager Steve Sherrart is dedicated to drumming up sales for the lottery which provides vital funds for the cancer care centre.
Punters can now buy a single ticket at any of the haven’s charity shops.
Steve, aged 57, from Norton, Runcorn, said: “We launched a new look single ticket three months ago.
“It has already increased takings by 10 per cent.”
The lottery raises around £90,000 a year.
Steve aims to increase this to £112,000, by finding 500 more members. He said: “I’m trying to get more shops, offices and individuals to take the tickets.
“The haven has a lot of goodwill in the area. People are very supportive.”
The O2 call centre in Preston Brook recently sold 200 tickets and has offered the charity a monthly stall.
Steve, a civil servant for 20 years at the Department of Employment, said: “I really enjoy my work because I go out and about meeting people.
“It’s great to have a job where I can pay something back to my community.
“There is so much joy in the haven, It’s not a sad place, you hear lots of laughter.
“There is a lovely family feel.
“I tend to see a lot of old friends here, visiting or as patients.
“You realise how many people need our services.”
Lottery tickets cost £1 and the draw is made every Friday.
The top prizes are £500, £100 and £50, with 15 smaller sums.
