A KNIFE-WIELDING robber threatened staff at a betting shop in Widnes.

He produced a knife as they were locking up William Hill’s turf accountants in Lower House Lane, at 9.30pm on Saturday.

The man forced them to hand over a quantity of cash and fled.

Staff were left shaken but unharmed.

The police are appealing for witnesses.

The man was white, 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall, and of skinny build.

He wore black clothing and had a scarf covering the lower part of his face.

He spoke with a Liverpool accent.

Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Lower House Lane area, before or after the robbery on Saturday evening.

Anyone with information can call DC Tina Jackson on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
