ARMED robbers brandishing a shotgun and a knife burst into a busy Widnes food store on Saturday.
Three men startled shoppers as they rushed into the Co-op in Liverpool Road at 9.20pm.
One man wielding a knife, whilst another used a shotgun to threaten a female member of staff to hand over cash.
The gang fled on foot with a three-figure sum of money and cigarettes.
Supt Ged Manley, said: “Thankfully, no-one was injured as a result of this incident which potentially could have had very serious consequences.
“Several lines of inquiry are being investigated.
“Additional patrols have been deployed in Widnes.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in this area to come forward.”
A considerable number of customers were in the shop at the time of the raid.
