BUDDING olympians had the chance to develop their skills at a PE masterclass at Bankfield High School in Widnes.
Teachers from its feeder primary schools were asked to nominate gifted and talented students in PE.
Some 26 children played basketball and badminton and competed in indoor athletics.
These sports were chosen as they cover a range of skills including invasion, fine motor and athletic abilities, teamwork, co-operation and communication skills.
Clr Tom McInerney, board member for children and young people, said: “Primary staff commented on how much the young children enjoyed the event and that the students from Bankfield were an absolute credit to the school.”
A team of 14 Bankfield pupils provided demonstrations and coached the younger children.
The year six pupils were assessed for their physical, social and cognitive capabilities.
Nine youngsters who performed at an outstanding level in all three activities will be invited to join Bankfield’s gifted and talented group next year.
The event celebrated Bankfield’s accolade of being appointed a gifted and talented lead school as well as a talent scout for its gifted and talented class
