VARIOUS fundraising events are being held to help former rugby players who have been left injured and disabled.
St Marie’s rugby club in Widnes has pledged to help Ste Hunt, who suffered a stroke, and is now wheelchair bound.
John Borrowman, of the club, said: “We have to raise £1,500 to get Ste a hoist to get in and out of his car.”
Surplus funds will be donated to the families of long-serving players Gary McKeown, who lost a hand in an accident, and Tony Hannon, who died last year.
A comedy night featuring some of the north west’s best comedians is being held at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 20. Tickets are £10.
Former England and Manchester United legend, Lee Sharpe, will host a sportsman’s night with a top comedian on April 17.
A two course dinner will be served and tickets, priced £30, are available from the club on 0151 257 9912.
