Pensioner duped by two men

CRIMINALS duped a 72-year-old man telling him they were from the gas board.

The pensioner was alone at his home on Lytham Road, Appleton, Widnes, when a man knocked on his door claiming to be from the gas board at 1.45pm The old man would not let him in but the suspect became angry saying there had been a gas leak and all of the houses needed to be checked.

After checking the gas metre the man insisted on checking the victim’s stove. A second man entered the house and disappeared upstairs.

The pensioner told the men to leave and went upstairs to find drawers open and bank details missing.

The first man had black short hair, a pale face, a stubbly beard and wore a black bomber jacket, black trousers and black shoes.
