THE magic of the silver screen is being revived in Widnes, where six cinemas once flourished.

An empty shop is being transformed into a classic movie theatre for one day only.

Organisers are appealing to film buffs for historic films to show, with links to the local area.

Artist collective Re-Dock will re-create a traditional picture house with ushers, velvet curtains, popcorn and ice cream on Saturday, April 3.

It is hoped to be a curtain raiser for the five-screen cinema to open on Widnes Waterfront next year.

Clr Rob Polhill, board member for regeneration, said: “The small cinema forms part of a number of ongoing initiatives to further regenerate and support the town centres in Halton.”

A traditional outdoor market is being held in Widnes at Easter.
