Robber steals £800 cash from 88-year-old victim in Pepper Street, Hale Village

AN elderly woman was robbed in her own home by a con man posing as a water board official.

The 88-year-old victim was alone in Pepper Street, Hale Village at teatime on Wednesday when an intruder said he needed to check her water supply.

She let him into her bungalow and he sneaked into her living room whilst asking her to run the taps.

He fled with around £800 plus her pension.

Inspector Sharon Case of Widnes Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “Don’t let anyone into your home unless it is a pre-arranged visit.

“Always check ID and get a relative or neighbour to be present.”

The man is 5ft 8ins tall, with dark brown hair in a short back and side style.

He had a speech impediment, brown eyes and a round face.

He was wearing a dark knee length zip up jacket and dark trousers.
