A SECOND Widnes nursery has been affected by hand, foot and mouth disease.
A little girl from Highfield Day Nursery in Highfield Road was diagnosed with the virus.
The 14-month-old and her mum developed symptoms and stayed at home to recover.
A spokeswoman for Highfield Day Nursery said: “One little girl did develop the illness. She is back now. Any time we have any illness like this we put a notice up in the nursery with symptoms for parents to watch out for.”
Three children at Warrington Road Day Centre contracted the disease earlier this month.
Parents were given leaflets warning them to watch out for blisters on their children’s hands and tongues.
The virus has nothing to do with foot and mouth disease that affects cows, sheep and pigs.
It causes blisters on the hands and feet and mouth ulcers inside the cheeks and on the tongue.
Children may develop a sore throat and high temperature. There is no specific treatment and it is generally a mild infection. The virus is spread by coughs and sneezes.
