A DREAM £200,000 ground for Runcorn FC to return to their home town has come true.
Halton Council has pledged £100,000 towards a high quality pitch at Halton Sports site near Murdishaw.
Council leader Clr Tony McDermott said: “We’ve managed to get the money from a fund we have for sport.
“Bringing back Runcorn Linnets to play in Runcorn is something they’ve always wanted.”
Clr Dave Cargill, a former season ticket holder, said: “I’m absolutely delighted.
“The people of Runcorn need to come out and support them.
“It creates great opportunities for local talent.”
Derek Greenwood, Linnets chairman, said: “We would like to offer sincere thanks to the council and the football foundation for their invaluable help and advice in securing a cost effective project for the club.”
The council grant comes from underspends across the culture and leisure budgets.
There are no revenue costs to the council. All running costs will be met by the club.
