Pupils from Woodside and Westfield learn fire safety messages

ENERGETIC Runcorn children became firefighters for the day this week.

Wearing special mini white helmets, they marched round the fire station in Heath Road.

Firefighter Mark Jones said: “It was an informative day, with educational talks and demonstrations by us on the effects of fire.

“We showed them what to do if a fire breaks out at their home and how to escape from smoke.

“We also demonstrated how we rescue casualties trapped in car accidents.”

Pupils from Woodside and Westfield primary schools spent the day with firefighters as part of child safety week.

Watch manager Rob Turner added: “Serious accidents can have a devastating effect on children and their families.

“That’s why we want to alert families in Runcorn to the dangers and the simple steps they can take to prevent serious accidents.”
