The Range officially makes a comeback in Widnes on Good Friday with the ribbon set to be cut on its brand new store.

The World revealed in January how the company was planning to move in the the vacant Wilko store on Widnes Shopping Park.

Construction workers and shop-fitters have been on site for several weeks with the new store set to officially open to the public at 9am on Friday, March 29.

The company said a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held to mark the opening and there will also be goodie bags up for grabs featuring the brand’s products for the first 50 shoppers in the queue. The new 27,000 sq ft store has seen new jobs created and will feature an external garden centre.

The Range had withdrawn from Widnes - and Halton altogether - at the beginning of 2023, closing its giant Widnes Trade Park store.

CEO of CDS Superstores, trading as The Range and Wilko, Alex Simpkin said:

"The expansion of our store openings represents a significant milestone for our brand as we continue to grow and connect with new communities, and we’re thrilled to announce the grand opening of our store in Widnes.

“The team looks forward to welcoming everyone at our new Widnes location, and to helping locals get everything they need when updating or maintaining their home and garden, or for enjoying time with family and friends."

The Wilko unit at Widnes Shopping Park has been shuttered since the collapse of the company last August. The firm employed 12,500 staff nationally and had been a part of the British high street since 1930.

The Range's parent company later struck a deal to buy the Wilko brand from administrators for £5m and its stores now stocks some former Wilko products.
