AN international photographer, born and brought up in Widnes, has been awarded a prestigious French title.

Michael Kenna, born in Widnes in 1953 was awarded the French Officer des Arts et des lettres by the French Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak, on Thursday.

Mr Kenna, already awarded the French Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2000, was presented with his latest award at the Paris Photo event after donating his archive to The Médiathèque du Patrimoine et de la Photographie, based in Paris.

Mr Kenna was born and brought up on Birchfield Road, Widnes and attended St Bede’s School before training to become a priest at the Up Holland seminary, St Joseph's College.
