A CABARET act from Halton that struggled to find work is set for stardom after reaching this week's Britain's Got Talent semi-final.

Stunning sextet Diva Las Vegas, which includes members from across the borough, will perform in front of a staggering nine-million viewers when they take to the stage on Friday hoping to secure a coveted final spot.

The band's figurehead, Alison Daly, aged 39, of Runcorn, said: "The whole experience has been absolutely nerve-wracking.

"It has probably been the most stressful thing I have ever had to do, but we are absolutely made up to have got this far."

The exposure is almost certain to catapult the band into the limelight as they battle it out with the remaining competitors for the chance to win the £100,000 prize.

But mother-of-two Alison, who has been performing for more than 25 years, admitted her newfound fame has been anything but easy to come by.

"Over the years business has been bad for us," she said.

"We weren't getting many gig offers and things were made more difficult by me having two children.

"It has been very hard work, but hopefully now things are on the up."

However, after changing their name from Night Games to Diva Las Vegas last year, they decided to audition for the hit TV talent show.

"After re-branding the act, we went in for the show to raise the profile of the group and get more work," Alison said.

"We never thought we'd get this far, but we have and it's amazing."

The group, who wowed judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden, could be in for another attack from Piers Morgan though after he dismissed the group as "rough".

And Alison revealed Friday's performance of the Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell hit Ain't No Mountain High Enough could make or break their career.

"We are doing a costume change during the performance, which means I have 14 seconds to change. If that goes wrong, the whole performance will go wrong big time in front of so many people," she said.

Britain's Got Talent will be shown live on ITV1 from 8pm on Friday.
