CUSTOMERS say they are ‘gutted’ today to hear that a family butchers is closing after 70 years.

Pile Butchers, of Widnes Road, say they have made the decision ‘with a heavy heart’ Reluctantly, soaring costs have forced them to shut.

Staff pledged their appreciation and said they wanted to thank everyone ‘from the bottom of our hearts’.

Customers described it as ‘the end of an era’ as generations of families have bought their meat from this long-serving family.

The much loved butchers made the announcement today on social media.

In an emotional post, the Pile family said: “It comes with heavy heart to announce that Pile Butchers will be shutting for the last time today.

“After months of discussion and thinking we have decided that after 70 amazing years it is time for us to close.

“With the increase of everything and trade just not as it use to be it’s time for us to take a step back.

”We cannot thank all of our loyal customers enough for all of their continued support over the years along with our suppliers who have stuck with us.

“From the bottom of our hearts thank you to each and everyone.

“Also a massive thank you to our amazing and loyal stuff whether you’ve been with us 30 years or one year we could not of gotten this far without you by our side.
