A STUNNED motorist had his £11,000 Lexus car confiscated and faces prosecution after being caught red-handed driving without insurance.

Cheshire Constabulary's Victor unit stopped him after their number plate recognition equipment revealed he had no valid car insurance.

The team was working on the Weston Point Expressway in Runcorn.

His vehicle was seized after the Motor Insurance Bureau confirmed the insurance had expired in August.

A further check showed that the vehicle was on hire purchase.

Within an hour, the company, as legal owners, stated they wanted to repossess the vehicle.

A Cheshire Police spokesman, said: "As a result of driving his car on Cheshire's roads, the driver faces prosecution for driving an uninsured vehicle and has lost the vehicle, with the value in excess of £11,000, back to the finance company.

"We are keen to let anyone who drives on Cheshire roads know that they too could face the same plight as the unfortunate Lexus driver."

The police should have crushed the car, as their advert states. It would then be for the finance company to seek the £11,000 from the keeper.

You wouldnt be compaining if this motorist had killed your relative, after driving with no insurance. Why should honest motorists who pay insurance be out at risk by those who dont?
