EAST Runcorn MP Mike Amesbury paid a visit to Norton Priory recently as it showcased an incredible new castle exhibition.

The event saw a replica of the historic Halton Castle made purely out of cardboard boxes erected on the site and built by volunteers.

Halton Castle is believed to have originated during the early Norman campaigns in the north of England but this re-imagining of the castle was designed to reflect the imposing 15th century gatehouse of the fortress.

The family fun day was part of a wider artistic project by French artist Olivier Grossetête and visitors could also enjoy activities such as theatre, musical performances and storytelling.

Mike said: “I had a great time with my family and it was hugely impressive to see the level of creativity and detail that’s gone into this fantastic project. It was a real credit to everyone involved.

“Norton Priory is a real jewel in the crown of the north west and country’s heritage and this project was just one of many fantastic events taking place there.”
