IN April I was sent a bowel cancer home screening kit which I used and promptly returned.
The results came back positive and I undertook further tests which identified a small cancerous tumour in my colon.
I was admitted to ward A6 at Warrington Hospital and had an operation undertaken by a first class surgical team to remove the tumour.
All the staff were outstanding.
They were dedicated, caring, displaying excellent team work.
They worked tirelessly to make me feel comfortable and aid my recovery.
On discharge I received the news everybody hopes for. I had early stage cancer and the operation was a success. I require no further treatment or chemotherapy.
I would like to thank all the staff at Warrington and Halton Hospitals for their prompt action in diagnosing and dealing with me as an individual producing what I can only describe as personalised care.
They responded very quickly devising a treatment plan shaped by all the tests and scans I undertook.
Recently I read that over four in 10 over 60s fail to return the bowel cancer home screening kit.
Men, apparently, are the biggest culprits. They either cannot be bothered or are too embarrassed to use the kit.
I would like to say to all those individuals who are sent a bowel cancer home screening kit do not put it in the bin.
Use it and return it promptly. It could save your life.
It has certainly saved mine.
