Firefighters spent almost three hours tackling a big grass fire on the banks of the River Mersey in Hale
A LARGE grass fire broke out on the banks of the River Mersey in Hale.
Crews from Widnes, Runcorn and Penketh tackled the blaze at around 6.15pm last night.
On arrival firefighters found multiple seats of fire totalling approximately 200 metres by 100 metres.
The team used one hose reel jet, a light portable pump and water backpacks to extinguish the fire.
Crews were in attendance for almost three hours.
