A ROCK'N'ROLL charity night is being held to celebrate the life of Widnes musician Chris Barras.

Legend Jonnie Rocco is hosting the event at The Studio on Lacey Street at 7pm on Friday, July 27.

All proceeds will be donated to Widnes and Runcorn Cancer Support Centre which was founded by Chris' partner Dee Graal.

The Rockin' 60s and Sky Train will join Chris' musician friends to pay tribute to him.

Nicola Donoghue from Widnes Runcorn Cancer Support Centre said:“We are delighted that our good friends at The Studio will be holding this fantastic event to celebrate the life of Chris Barras who is close to our hearts.

"It is certain to be an entertaining night with local personality Johnnie Rocco as host!

"It is extremely kind of Dee and friends of Chris to have decided to make our charity the beneficiaries of the proceeds raised on the night. Our staff team will be there to support and join in the event."

Chris, 71, was well known locally as a gifted musician.

He was born on The Wirral and moved to Runcorn with his family when he was seven.

Music was always an integral part of Chris’s life and he played various instruments in many types of bands from beat groups in the 60s Liverpool scene to folk groups and cabaret.

Chris also used his talents to raise money for various local charities.

He first met his partner (Dee) when they were both teenagers and members of The Moonshiners folk group.

But after a time they went their separate ways until fate stepped in and they met again in 2004.

Their shared love of music led to them writing, producing and recording an extensive catalogue of original songs, which they had intended to promote to famous recording artistes.

Dee still hopes to be able to gain recognition for his talents as a composer and lyricist.

The Studio manager Louise Nulty said: ‘The musicians are giving their time for free to mark the impact of Chris on the local music scene and to raise awareness and funds for Widnes and Runcorn Cancer Support who give relief and constant support to thousands of people in this area.

"Our last 60s event Diamond Night’was remembering Queens Hall and it was a huge success so we are thrilled to have The Rockin’ 60s back on our stage."
